Mendoza

CAMERONĀ­— Funeral services for Manuel Mendoza Sr., 78, of Cameron will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Gary Kleypas officiating. Burial will follow in Hernandez Cemetery.

Mr. Mendoza died Sunday, Oct. 14, in a Temple hospital

He was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Buckholts to Chon and Teresa (Granado) Mendoza.

Mr. Mendoza was a graduate of Buckholts High School and then entered the U.S. Navy.

He married Reyes Torrez on Nov. 20, 1954.

After his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Mendoza worked at Ideal Hatchery and then as a maintenance man for the Cameron Housing Authority.

He was a member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by a son, Manuel Mendoza Jr.; a brother, Jesse Mendoza; and two sisters, Melissa Bienevides and Lanora Mendoza.

Survivors are his wife, Reyes “Gracie” Mendoza of Cameron; three sons, Ricky Mendoza and Eddie Mendoza, both of Temple, Joe Mendoza of Pettibone; two daughters, Sally Folz of Temple, Stella Melton of Denton; two brothers, Ruben Mendoza of Buckholts, William Mendoza of Academy; and two sisters, Gloria Soliz of Temple, Doris Lange of Holland; also, 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
