Area cross country teams ready for district

Rockdale runners will compete at their district meet on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Tier 1 Training Center near Caldwell.

On Saturday, Tiger and Lady Tiger runners competed in a pre-district meet at that facility.

Juan Rubio placed third in the varsity boys division, with time of 18 minutes, eight seconds. Benito Cotillo was 16th, with Stefan Hinojosa finishing 23rd and Henry Hill 24th.

Two runners represented RHS in the junior varsity girls race. Emily Ibarra was 19th overall and Tina Contrereas was 33rd.

Blake King was Rockdale’s lone runner in the junior high division, placing 13th in the boys race.

THORNDALE—The varsity boys team for Thorndale took top honors on Saturday at a meet in Rogers.

Aaron Laurence logged a third place finished, followed by Isidro Hernandez in fifth and Brian Crockett in sixth. A lso finishing in the top 10 was Ray Stewart in eighth place.

Jack Marr was 14th and Eric Hinistroza was 20th in the race for Thorndale.

MILANO—In their last race before the district contest, Milano’s cross country teams faired well at the Franklin meet held Saturday. The varsity boys team finished second overall, led by Efrain Flores’ second place individual finish at a time of 19 minutes, 55 seconds.

Also running for the Eagles were Derek Walton (7th), Kain Dodd (8th), Treyton Steinbecker (14th), Sabian Pugh (16th) and Justin Grimes (27th).

In the varsity girls division, Megan Pendergrass paced Milano with a third place finish in 14 minutes, 42 seconds.

Other Lady Eagles competing were Alejandra Ruelas (12th), Sarah Pedroza (15th), Melodie Jones (17th).

In the junior high boys division, Bryce Hughes placed 10th with a time of 15:44.

Next up, Thorndale and Milano teams will compete at the district cross country meet on Monday, Oct. 22 in Round Rock.
