Rockdale pulls out five set win at Taylor on Friday

Reporter/Cliff Dungan After a five set win over Taylor on Friday night, Rockdale needed to win out the remainder of its schedule to for a chance to make a trip to the post-season. Caldwell, tied atop District 18-3A standinsg with College Station, denied them the chance.

The Lady Tigers (9-18, 2-6) went down in straight sets 25-12, 25-5, 25-16 at Tiger Gym.

Shelby Evans led Rockdale with five kills and five blocks on the night. Lisa Vest added three kills and Morgan Fischer 15 digs.

Amanda Boyd put up seven assists and six digs. Emily McCoy also had seven assists. Marisa Mireles added four digs.

Rockdale’s junior varsity lost in three sets to Caldwell, while its freshman lost in two.

TAYLOR MARATHON—The Lady Tigers stayed out of the cellar of loop standings with a five set win on the road in Taylor on Friday night.

The Lady Ducks took the first two games 25-18 and 25-21. Rockdale then took game three 25-13 and game four 25-14.

The Lady Tigers finished the come from behind win with a 16-14 win in the final set.

Evans pounded out 17 kills, four aces and put up nine blocks in the win. Morgan Laughlin added 11 kills, three aces and 25 digs.

Vest added nine kills and three blocks, with Samantha Muston recording six kills and seven digs. Fischer and Haley Wright each pulled out 13 digs.

Boyd set 23 assists and had nine digs and was complimented by McCoy’s 16 assists and eight digs.

All three Rockdale teams went the distance in their matches against the Lady Ducks. The Lady Tigers’ JV lost in three sets 25-21, 11-25, 18-25. Rockdale’s frosh pulled out a three set win 26-24, 9-25, 25-23.
