Seventh grade Tigers perfect record smashed by 22-20 loss

Reporter/Cliff Dungan THURSDAY: The junior varsity and freshmen teams will combine to play the remainder of the games for the season. They will travel to Madisonville this week with game time set for 5:30 p.m. The junior high Tigers host Madisonville, with the first game starting at 4:30 p.m. The 7th B team will play the first game, followed by the 7A, then 8A.

Rockdale’s seventh grade team lost its first game of the season 22-20 to Bellville. They are now 4-1 on the season.

Jacqualyn Crawford scored all three of the Tigers’ touchdowns. He scored from 65 yards out in the first quarter. G unner Miller passed to Josh Springer for the two point conversion.

Crawford scored another 65 yarder in the second quarter and then from five yards out in the third.

Walker Crane also nabbed an interception in the third quarter.

Standouts were listed as Crawford, Patrick Dean, Angel Banda, Rey Vega, Tyler Lehmkuhl and Dylan David.

8TH GRADE—Rockdale’s eigth grade squad fell to 1-4 o the season with a 32-14 loss to Bellville.

In the first quarter, quarterback David Franklin threw a 49 yard pass to Davion Ford to set up a one yard score by Ford on the next play.

Ford opened up the second half of play with a 95-yard kickoff returnforascore. Quentin White then converted a two point run.

Coaches listed standouts as Quentin White, Luke Elliston, Alex Guzman, Zach Montelongo, Braden Hartley and Braxton Moore.

RJH B TEAM—The junior high B squad was the only Rockdale team to come out on top last Thursday against oppenents. Members of the eight and seventh grade B teams played together and defeated Bellville 14-12 with a two yard rushing touchdown by Dylan Kurz with less than a minute left in the game.

It was the first win of the season for the 8B boys, which also included a Kurz 11 yard score and a Brajon Ayala two-point conversion run in the second quarter.

Accordingtocoaches,Kurz, Jack Ingram, James Weller, Cesar Gonzalez, Josh Tanner and Zach Caywood had outstanding performances.

JV—Rockdale’s junior varsity squad is now 0-7 on the season and 0-1 in district play after a 44- 6 routing at the hands of Taylor’s JV on Thursday.

Jon Mendoza accounted for the only Tiger score with a 55 yard rushing TD in the second quarter.

Defensively, Mendoza, Quandrous Ayala, Jared Gerren, Eric Davenport and Javier Mayberry stood out.

Mendoza and Ayala were coaches’ offensive standouts.

FRESHMEN—Rockdale’s frosh were blanked by the Taylor freshmen 19-0 on Thursday. Two of the Ducks’ scores came on Tiger turnovers.

Offensive standout was quarterback Joey Montelongo, with defensive standouts as Kacey Waxler (two sacks) and Fred Henderson.
