SHERIFF’S REPORT

CPS tip nets marijuana bust

A tip from a Child Protective Services (CPS) employee led to two arrests and recovery of a “tub” of marijuana last week, west of Rockdale, according to Chief Deputy Chris White.

White said the sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit was alerted by CPS to possible drug activity at a residence.

“Upon arrival SIU Lt. Mike Clore and Ofc. Adam Assaker of the Rockdale Police Department located a tub of marijuana drying within the residence,” he said.

Svjetlana Gaspar, 36, was charged with felony possession of marijuana. Deputy Zack Burks and Lt. Chad Marek also arrived to assist in processing the scene and collected three large marijuana plants from the back yard of the residence, he said.

Deputies also located an illegal sawed-off shotgun in the living area of the residence and seized it along with the marijuana, White said.

A second suspect, 34 year old Severiano Rodriguez-Gutierrez, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana as well as felony possession of a prohibited weapon when he showed up at the Sheriff’s Office to try and bond Gaspar out of jail, White said.

White and Lt. Clore interviewed Rodriguez. “He confessed to his part in growing the marijuana and having the shotgun in the residence,” White said

Both subjects were charged with possession of marijuana (4 ounces to 5 pounds), and Rodriguez received an additional charge of possession of a prohibited weapon.

Gaspar posted a $5,000 bond and was released. Rodriguez’s bonds total $17,500 dollars and he is being held additionally on an immigration detainer.
