McCoy, Fisher awarded Gold Star certificates

Milam County 4-H Gold Star winners were honored at the District 8 Banquet on Oct. 22 in Waco on the Baylor Campus. Emily McCoy, Rockdale 4-Her and Devin Fisher, Thorndale 4-Her were among the thirty-eight 4-Hers from across the district honored at the banquet. The Gold Star Award is the highest county 4-H award. Congratulations to Emily and Devin.

GIFT IDEA EXCHANGE— 4-Hers across the county have an opportunity to show off their talents with holiday foods, decorations and gifts. The 18th Annual Holiday Gift Idea Exchange is set for Monday, Nov. 19 at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron from 6:30-8:30 p.m. 4-Hers can sign-up to present their ideas by calling the Milam County Extension Office at 254-697-7045. After you sign-up you can submit your project directions, recipes, etc. by Nov. 16 to the Milam County Extension Office, 100 E. 1st Street in Cameron or email it to ce-walker@tamu.edu.

On the night of the program, 4-Hers will show the finished project and talk about how it was made. In some cases you may want to do a step by step show and tell. You will also be asked to provide a sample of your project as a door prize.

Persons that attend the event will get lots of ideas to add to their holiday celebration from the handout of recipes and project directions. Participants will also enjoy door prizes and refreshments prepared by the 4-Hers.

MEMBERSHIP—From now through Oct. 31 youth from 3rd grade through 18 years of age can enroll in 4-H for $20. If you wait until Nov. 1, the enrollment fee goes up to $25. You need to be an active 4-Her to participate in any 4-H event.

Youth from kindergarten through second grade along with 4-H leaders can register on 4-H Connect at no charge. The online 4-H enrollment, 4-H Connect, is at texas.4honline.com. If you have problems with the 4-H Connect system, contact the Milam County Extension Office at 254-697- 7045.

HOLIDAY CLASSIC—The annual Holiday Classic will be held Nov. 10-11 at the Belton Expo Center in Belton. This is a free, two day livestock species clinic and showmanship show for 4-H and FFA members. On Saturday, Nov. 10 participants can bring their animals to the livestock species clinics and gain knowledge to improve their showing skills.

4-Hers and FFA members that have not purchased an animal can still come to the Saturday clinics and learn about training future projects for show. If you attend the clinics on Saturday, you are eligible to participate in the showmanship show on Sunday. All exhibitors are invited to attend. There are no registration fees and a meal is served Saturday evening.
