RISD Red Ribbon Week included activities for all campuses
Red Ribbon Week was a total success at Rockdale High School this year. Peer Assistance and Leadership (PALS) and student council teamed up to make Red Ribbon Week happen. Student Council had different dress up themes each day encouraging our student body to live a drug free life.
PALS did several skits at the elementary, intermediate and junior high campuses also promoting drug free lifestyles as well as no drinking and no bullying. PALS also had a demonstration to promote no texting and driving by making a crash scene at the front of the school.
Curtis Childers, our guest speaker, was a great hit! His presentation and speech was about his struggle and life changing accident due to the use of drugs. He now devotes his life to help keep others from making the same mistakes he made. Curtis strongly believes that if he can help one person that his mission will be complete. He now lives everyday drug and alcohol free and hopes to soon become a counselor for people addicted to chemical substances.
We would like to thank all of the following for the texting and driving demonstration: Rockdale High School Ag department for supplies and Chris Pounders with Pounders Wrecker Service for supplying the wrecked car. We would also like to thank Kay Bow for helping us arrange our guest speaker, Rainbow Courts for supplying a room for Curtis and Dr. Vernon Bender, with Dental Professionals of Taylor for sponsoring our guest speaker.
We would also like to thank our school administration for allowing us to bring such an important message to our school. We would like to thank all of these wonderful people for making our Red Ribbon Week possible.
It is our hope that the students of Rockdale High School were able to learn an important life lesson and can use this experience to make better choices.
