Mitigation part of permit okayed Tuesday
MILANO—The high-profile, high-emotions question of a new water drilling permit for Alcoa came to a conclusion Tuesday when the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) approved an amended permit that includes a promise to mitigate Simsboro Aquifer wells which are impacted. Thanksgiving service Tuesday at Rising Star
Rev. Leslie Adams, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will deliver the sermon during Rockdale’s annual Community Thanksgiving Service, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rising Star Church.
Rev. Jack Chelf, interim president of the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance, said an offering taken during the service will be partly donated to Rockdale Christian Service Food Pantry. Full Story
Thanksgiving free lunch set for Saturday
Rockdale’s annual Community Outreach free Thanksgiving lunch, hosted by New Hope Baptist Church, is set for Saturday (Nov. 17) at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park.

Rockdale veteran guarded ‘good, and bad’ Germans at POW camp
Probably no Rockdale veteran had more direct contact with German soldiers during World War II than J. D. Wardlow.
About 4,700 of them. And he did it all within 30 miles of Rockdale.
Wardlow was a guard at Camp Hearne, a 1942-46 prisoner of war camp that has now been restored and stages living history presentations, plus commemorative days. Full Story
