That’s how much the Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili luncheon cleared for the I&GN Historical Depot Saturday at Fair Park’s New Salem Clubhouse. The event also featured a silent auction. The society has restored the more than 100-year-old structure for use as a museum. Full Story
A home south of Rockdale received extensive damage in a Thursday night fire, according to Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Ward Roddam.
Roddam said the Fred Gerthe family returned to their home, 885 County Road 333, about 8:30 p.m. to find the rear of the structure ablaze. Full Story
Deer cause two crashes
Deer were blamed for both traffic accidents investigated by DPS state troopers in South Milam County during the past week.
Trooper Broderick Sims said a vehicle operated by Floyd Mitchell, 59, of Cameron, was in collision with a deer at 7:25 p.m . Nov. 6 on US 77 north of Minerva.
No injuries, and moderate damages, were reported. Full Story
No injuries were reported in an 8:11 a.m. Friday two-vehicle accident at the intersection of US 79 and the Murphy’s Oil (Walmart) driveway that drew police, an AMR ambulance crew and the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department. Drivers were listed as Leslie Davis of Rockdale, the pickup, and Darush Rahmani of Austin in a Lexus LL. Moderate damages were reported. Full Story

Life Line Screening scheduled for November 28 in Rockdale
Residents in the Rockdale area can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or bone fracture. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will host Life Line Screening on Nov. 28 at 234 San Gabriel in Rockdale. Full Story
Whitmore piano students grade high in hymn festival at UMHB
Piano students of local teacher Dixie Whitmore played recently in a hymn festival at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.

Vaculin earns Navy ‘anchors’
“Anchors Aweigh” was the song of preference as a new class of chief petty officers of the U.S. Navy were pinned in Oklahoma City, OK.
RHS graduate Craig Vaculin was one of 16 officers chosen to receive thei r anchor pins.
The s ele c t class went through six weeks of intensive training and conditioning in preparation for the advancement to chief petty officer. Full Story

Milano Opry to hit stage for last time this year
MILANO—The Milano Opry will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Milano High School for its last show of the year. The group does not do a December show.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 with a $7 admission and 10 years of age and younger are free. Full Story
