Work has begun on a long-awaited project, widening the ultra-narrow San Gabriel River bridge on FM 486 near San Gabriel from 22 feet to 44 feet, including two 12-foot driving lanes and two 10-foot shoulders. Bobby Colwell of TxDOT said the $1.95-million project will take 14 months and traffic will be controlled by traffic signals at each end. Full Story

Nobody goes without a Thanksgiving meal
1,200 served by effort from 50 volunteers
The goal of Rockdale’s annual Community Outreach Thanksgiving Luncheon is that no one goes through the holiday period without a Thanksgiving meal and that’s pretty much what happened Saturday morning.
More than 50 volunteers gathered in the New Salem HD Clubhouse at Fair park to prepare, organize and deliver more than 1,200 meals. Full Story

AUSTIN—Milam County’s unemployment rate dropped for the third consecutive month according to numbers released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) on Friday.
