Work has begun on a long-awaited project, widening the ultra-narrow San Gabriel River bridge on FM 486 near San Gabriel from 22 feet to 44 feet, including two 12-foot driving lanes and two 10-foot shoulders. Bobby Colwell of TxDOT said the $1.95-million project will take 14 months and traffic will be controlled by traffic signals at each end. “Just wait until the signal is green, then proceed on the one lane of traffic,” he said.
