Thorndale’s annual downtown Christmas parade, activities set Saturday

By DARLEEN TUCKER
TACC Secretary

Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce ( TACC) will welcome Santa Claus and his elves to Thorndale on Saturday, Dec. 1, before and af ter the TACC Christmas parade. Line up for parade judging will be at noon and the parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. Ribbons will be awarded in various categories and winners will be announced as the entries go through the parade.

The parade route will be the same as last year. The parade will begin at Michalk same as usual but will turn east on Front street instead of West and proceed down two blocks to Elliot before turning South and returning to Michalk to return to their starting point. We feel this change will resolve some safety issues we have had in the past with a conflict between by-standers and f loats/entries trying to return to their starting points for unloading.

Parade entr y forms are still being accepted so if you would like to participate we encourage you to do so. You can bring your entry form the day of the parade to parade central and even if you don’t have your entry form ahead of time; bring your float, decorated car, walking group, riding group, decorated gator, pet in costume or whatever your entry is to parade central located at the corner of E. Salty and Main and you can fill out your entry form there.

If you have any questions or need a form; you can call Donna Harris at 898-2427 or Deana Caffey at 898-5189. Entries for the parade are accepted all the way up to parade start time, however any entries not in place at noon for judging will not get judged.

Co- chairs Deana Caffey at 512-898-5189 and Donna Harris at 512-898-2427 are the ladies to call if you have questions about the parade.

The parade itself will begin at 1:30 p.m. but the festivities will begin around 9 a.m. and continue all day. It is not too late to get something together with your group to enter.

Beginning in the morning, the arts and crafts fair will be in place for you to check out their wares for your Christmas shopping or a special gift for yourself. Susan Drabek at 512- 269-8796 is the person to call for more information on booth spaces.

And don’t forget to check out our local businesses for Christmas specials for someone dear to you. The merchants will be open for business and you can sign up for a Christmas Ham while you are there. The hams are being sponsored by our TACC members and friends. You can call Kati Watson at 512- 898-2503 for more information.

While you are shopping, stop by and check out our silent auction in the TACC building where you will find interesting and unusual items for your bidding. Call Darleen Tucker at 512-898- 2727 if you have something to donate. Stop by the TACC building and see what you can’t live without.

Don’t forget to bring your little ones by the TACC building for a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and have their photo made for a treasured keepsake. Santa will be taking orders for all those special things on each child’s wish list. Santa will be available before the parade and after for your convenience.

If you missed the annual Thorndale Christmas Lot Lighting ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 25 you missed a blessing. The committee that worked on this project did an excellent job. Christmas carols and the lighting of the displays and the tree to kick off the holiday season was a big hit with the crowd.

The Communities in Concert band was a great addition in leading the festivities and the TACC thanks the Thorndale 4-H Club for providing cookies and hot chocolate for all in attendance. Marilyn Johnson and Angie Becker and their committee are to be commended for all their hard work which resulted in a beautiful display to wish all who pass by a Merry Christmas. Take a drive on Highway 79 and enjoy the display if you were unable to attend the lighting ceremony.

TACC would also like to remind everyone that it is time for membership letters to be returned for the 2013 yearly dues. Your dues help promote the business climate in Thorndale and help us sponsor family friendly events during the year, as well as fund scholarships for local students.

The Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes new members all year long. If you want to join, please contact Brian Morton at 512-658-5378 or Darleen Tucker at 512-898-2727.

Please shop locally to support area businesses and help the TACC in their mission of keeping Thorndale and surrounding businesses growing. Check us out at www.thorndaletx.com.
