Make support for troops more visible in Milam

Dear editor,

Recent ly I’ve been doing some thinking. Looking around Milam County, it’s hard to see the amount of support we share for our troops.

Don’t get me wrong, I know that many of you do support the troops, but I think we could do more to make that support visible in the community.

These brave men and women both past and present have risked, and even lost their lives, to keep us safe as well as free.

I think it’s time that we make our support shine through. If you have not already done so, pleasehangaflagoutsideof your house.

The stars and stripes are a symbol of freedom in America. We are one of the only countries that proudly f ly our f lag high in the sky for everyone to see. We’re not a nation of cowards. By simply hanging our flag you can tell our troops they are appreciated.

I want to have signs made that read “Support our troops, and “Pray for our troops.” I would love to see these signs around Rockdale as well as in our yards.

I’m only 23, and one person. I would love for the community to come together, and show their support.

I’m asking for donations to have the signs made. I will use Rockdale Signs to make them because I know the importance of supporting local businesses. Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, we are all Americans.

I’m hoping I can count on citizens from both parties of Milam County to show their support by donat ing. These signs will not be for profit, I would just like to cover the cost so I can spread the messages of support for our troops.

I can’t do this all by myself, but I am dedicated to making a difference so I’m looking to the great citizens around Milam County to help.

If you want to get involved, then please email me for more information.

I also want to send donation from Milam County to the Wounded Warrior Project. The WWP helps soldiers coming back from war adjust to civilian life again, and it also helps them with any medical or mental problems they may have.

I’m starting here in our community because I believe that a nation is strong when local communities are strong and when they come together. By uniting in this cause we can lift our spirits, and bring life to such a sad time.

We’re Americans, and we are a free people. Let’s show our troops that Milam County supports them, not just on Veteran’s Day, but every day.

If you have friends or family in the Military, I ask you to please join me, and get involved. Freedom isn’t free. We must fight for it. Milam County is a great place to live. Let’s show that Milam County cares.

God bless.
