New treasurer gets early call
Orsag sworn in after commissioners meet
CAMERON—Milam County’s new treasurer was sworn in just over a month early at the conclusion of Monday’s county commissioners meeting.
Donna Orsag, who was elected to that position on Nov. 6, got the early call due to state regulations, according to Sherry Mueck, elections clerk. Full Story

Troopers busy on area roads
It would have been a busy Thanksgiving holiday period on Rockdale area highways even without the fatal wreck near Minerva Nov. 21 which also injures four. (See page 1A)
Trooper Ernest DelBosque said two persons escaped serious injury in a 9:20 a.m. Monday crash as a vehicle hit a tree on CR 455A south of Thorndale. Full Story
Four draw terms in district court
Four persons were sentenced last week in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Kerry Spears.
She listed case dispositions as follows:
• Nathan Kurt Proctor, 26, Rockdale, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault, 10 years deferred adjudication probation, no contact with victim or victim’s family. Full Story

Volunteers for Rockdale’s 2012 Christmas Roundup continue to accept nominations of needy residents to be served during the 2012 holiday season.

This was the scene twice, looking east from near Marrs Street, during the past week as the highway carried Thanksgiving travelers going to their holiday destinations on Wednesday and coming back on Sunday. Six blasts on alarm would be tornado
Monday night coincidences caused concern as cool front passed through Rockdale
A “twisted” interpretation of a common sound around Rockdale— the siren system which is sounded once a day—led some residents to believe a tornado had been sighted in town Monday evening.
One hadn’t. But police dispatchers fielded a number of calls around 7 to 8 p.m. from concerned residents. Full Story
MCT staging ‘Scrooge’ for holidays
CAMERON—Milam Community Theater will present “A Christmas Carol: Scrooge & Marley,” on stage at the Williams Civic Center in Cameron in three performances beginning Friday, Dec. 7, according to Richard Stone, MCT spokesman.

Dates and times have been announced for the annual City of Milano Christmas Parade and Christmas decoration contest. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, from the elementary/football field parking lot, traveling downtown and back to the Milano Civic Center. Full Story

Sky Ranch scholarships available for area youth
THORNDALE—For the past eight years Star Creek Ranch in Thorndale, owned by the Sue Gove family, has offered 30 scholarships for Sky Ranch in Van, Texas.

Almost 600 pounds of food items collected in annual service project
Thanks to the students at Gause School and the community, 590 pounds of food were collected for the 4-H Food Drive before Thanksgiving. This will be a boost to some families’ food pantries.
