‘Legislative luncheon’ Dec. 14 at civic center
Incoming State Senator Charles Schwertner and State Representative Marsha Farney will speak at a networking lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Patterson Civic Center, an event sponsored by the Municipal Development District (MDD).

Thorndale Cares plans 2012 Christmas drive
THORNDALE—Thorndale Cares, the annual Christmas cheer drive for the needy in the Thorndale area is gearing up for its 2012 effort, according to Susan Sekaquaptewa, spokesperson.
She said donations of food, toys and coats are needed for this years drive.
Application forms nominating families to be served by Thorndale Cares are available from Sekaquaptewa at Thorndale Elementary School.
She said on Friday, Dec. 21, Thorndale High School honor students will pack boxes of donated items in the TISD lunchroom. Boxes will be delivered on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 22.
“Anyone and everyone is welcome to help with any of these activities,” she said.
Emancipet plans next Rockdale visit Thursday
Emancipet, an Austin-based organization which provides lowcost services to owners of dogs and cats, will visit S&S Auto in Rockdale Thursday, according to Adam Gardener, spokesman.
Spaying, neutering and vaccinations will be offered, he said.
“Emancipet offers these low-cost services to promote healthier pets and reduce pet overpopulation, he said.
Previous visits by Emancipet drew large amounts of pet owners and the organization has begun scheduling regular visits to Rockdale.

Deadline Friday for Santa Letter signup

Special needs group plans Christmas party
Rockdale’s Special Needs Support Group will hold its third annual Christmas party from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall of Rockdale Christian Church, Sager at Rockdale Road.
The evening will include a performance by Whitlee Casey and all family and friends of special needs persons are invited.

Rockdale officials part of TML conference
GRAPEVINE—Joyce Dalley and Toby Johnson, city council members, and Sharon Cloud P&Z Board member, participated in the Texas Municipal League’s 100th annual conference last month.
Dalley moderated two workshops and a resolution opposing granting rebates for hotel-motel taxes when paid on time was introduced by the Rockdale contingent and passed by the conference.
Food pantry gets 3,104 pounds from community
The Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry has recently received 3,104 pounds of food from the community, according to Inez Tipp, coordinator.
She expressed appreciation to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. John’s United Methodist Church, Milam County Probation Department and Rising Star Baptist Church among others.
“November was a record month for the number of donations we received and for the number of clients and families we helped,” Tipp said.
Health department still has flu vaccine in Milam
CAMERON—The Milam County Health Department still has flu vaccine available for any Milam resident needing flu shots, according to Diane Leftwich, spokesperson.
Flu shots are free to those with Medicare Part B while cost to other adults is $20.

Surplus food giveaway changes site this month
For one month only Rockdale’s third-Thursday surplus food distribution will change from the KC Hall parking lot to Waymar Plaza (old Walmart).
Hours will remain 9 to 10 a.m.
Distribution will return to the KC Hall parking lot on Jan. 17.
Police plan brisket fund raiser for December 21
Rockdale Police will hold a “whole brisket” fund raiser Friday Dec. 21 at the police department.
Price is $10.50 per pound, briskets will be between 4 and 7 pounds and can be picked up, vacuum-sealed at the department during the afternoon once they’ve cooled off, according to police.
Briskets will come with a pint of barbecue sauce.
Orders must be placed by Dec. 14 and only 30 briskets can be prepared. Call J D. Newlin or Shana Goodrich at 446-3436.
Proceeds will go the Rockdale Police Department’s Officer of the Year fund.
