Welcome for new Allen AME pastor set Sunday

The public is invited to fellowship with members of the Allen AME Church in Rockdale as they welcome new pastor Keith Gavin and his wife Sylvia.

A meet-and-greet event is set for 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the church, located at 216 E. 3rd Street.

At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, Allen AME will hear guest speaker Pastor Leslie Dunn from Lights Chapel Church in Cameron. The public is invited.

Rising Star BC Choir Christmas musical Dec. 16

Rising Star Baptist Church, 1022 Texas Street, Rev. Royal Johnson, pastor, has announced special events for December as follows:

• Sunday, Dec. 16t h at 11 a.m., RSBC Choir will present a Christmas musical, “The Greatest Story of All.”

• Monday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m., Rockdale Matinee Music Club will present a Christmas recital.

• Wednesday nights at 7 p.m., Bible study: Dec. 5 and 12 will cont inue the study ent it led “Becoming a Contagious Christian— The Prerequisite of High Potency” (Parts 1 and 2).

Meadowbrook choir yule concert set for Dec. 16

Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 1401 Colorado Ave., will present “Joy Among Us,” a Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 10:50 a.m.

The 18-voice choir, under the direction of Pastor Russ Willis, has prepared a 10-song collection of traditional and contemporary songs for the Rockdale community. Radio celebrity Charlie McGregor will be narrator. Soloists will be Denice Doss, Becky Phillips, Doug Williams, Pastor Willis and Kathy Willis.

KRXT FM 98.5 will carry the concert live (radio or internet).

Christmas Eve—Meadowbrook will hold a Candlelight Communion Service on Christmas Eve beginning at 6 p.m.

“The public is invited to join us to praise God and celebrate our Savior’s birth,” said Pastor Willis.

Choirs combine for Christmas cantata

CAMERON—The combined adult choirs from First Baptist Church of Cameron and First Baptist Church of Early will present a Christmas cantata, “All is Well,” at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Cameron.

Enjoy a blend of traditional carols and some contemporary seasonal selections will be offered.

“Come catch the Christmas spirit and be reminded of the comfort and joy we have in the miracle of grace as this 45-voice choir presents in music the true meaning of this special season,” spokesperson Judy Hudson said.

‘Dinner and a Movie’ series open to public

An invitation to the general public is extended to join “Dinner and a Movie,” a four-week study at 5 p.m. Sundays with a showing of the movie classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Dinner is available for purchase at Lee’s Landing, followed by a clip of the film and discussion to be held in the restaurant’s outdoor covered area.

The meal starts at 5 p.m., followed by the movie and discussion led by Rev. Rita Sims, pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church. To sign up, call the church office, 446-5853.

Feast of our Lady of Guadalupe Dec. 9

The public is cordially invited to celebrate the day of our Mother Our Lady of Guadalupe in a festival on Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Rockdale KC Hall.

Festival will start after the 11:15 a.m. mass and we invite you to share your favorite dish. There will be ballet folkloric, matachines, the Apparitions of the Virgin to Juan Diego, rffles, mariachi and food.

Mananitas will be on Dec. 12 at St. Joseph’s Church at 4:30 a.m. Mass will be at 5 a.m.

St. John’s UMC choir sets cantata Dec. 16

The St. John’s United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will present “Behold the Star,” a cantata by Lloyd Larsen, during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, Dec. 16.

A Christmas Eve candlelight and communion service will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 24.

Aglow Lighthouse to meet here Dec. 13

Rockdale Aglow Neighborhood Lighthouse will meet Thursday, Dec. 13 with refreshments and fellowship at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7.

Speaker will be pastor Carolyn Strong of Milano who will speak on “What Hinders Your Ministry?”

Landmark Baptist changes service times

Sundays will be different at the Landmark Baptist Church in Rockdale. The evening service is moving to the afternoon, according to pastor Rev. David Gonnella.

The new schedule will be: Sunday school at 10 a.m., morning worship at 11 a.m., fellowship luncheon at noon and afternoon service at 1:30 p.m.

“The change will be helpful. It will make it possible for members with night vision problems to attend the second service, it will cut down on expenses for those coming from Milano, Cameron and Lexington,” Rev. Gonnella said.

Members of the church will bring sandwiches, covered dishes, casseroles and other luncheon items.

“Visitors need only bring a good appetite and a desire to hear the preaching of God’s Word,” Rev. Gonnella added.

Landmark Baptist Church is located on South Wilcox street next to the Manor Oaks Nursing Center.

Women on Mission hold monthly study

Women on Mission of First Baptist Church met Nov. 26 in the FBC Family Life Center for monthly Bible study led by Jane Robinson. Topic was Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist.

Next men’s breakfast Tuesday, Apostolic Faith

An ecumenical monthly men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 until 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the site rotating between several local churches.

Next breakfast will be Dec. 11 at Apostolic Faith Church, 500 West Davilla Street.

Purpose is Christian fellowship and all men of the Rockdale area are invited.

Bell choir concert Sunday in Thorndale

THORNDALE—“O, Come,” a musical celebration of the birth of Jesus, will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday by Sounds of Grace, the bell choir of St. John Lutheran Church.

The event will be held at St. John Church which is located at Sixth Street and Sandoval Road in Thorndale.

The public is invited, according to Sandra Fronek, spokesperson.
