Kids’ activities, shopping, story time to precede huge lighted night event
Santa Claus is coming to Rockdale Saturday as part of a day-long “Christmas in the Country Party” that features the traditional night lighted Christmas parade along with activities at the I&GN Depot and Wolf Park.

Gooding, a 34-year veteran of the pole-painting profession, ascended the 50-foot flagpole at the Rockdale Post Office last week to apply a new coat of paint, including the shiny gold ball on top (at left). Arrest nets 18 bags of meth
A 24-year-old Rockdale man is in jail in lieu of bond totaling $145,000 after pol ice recovered 18 bags of crystal meth in a school zone Saturday afternoon.
Michael Rangel was arrested just before 5 p.m. on Maple Street near Rockdale Elementary School, according to Lt. J. D. Full Story
Vaughan, Brady’s Pest Control win VFD honors
Former fire chief Firefighter-of-Year for fourth time
Longtime volunteer firefighter, and former fire chief, Herbie Vaughan, become the first-ever four-time Firefighter-of-the-Year winner Saturday as the Rockdale VFD held its annual banquet in the VFW Hall.
Vaughan received a standing ovation after his name was announced by Fire Chief Ward Roddam.
The former chief had previously won the award in 1990, 1998 and 2006. Full Story
