Arrest nets 18 bags of meth


Rangel Rangel A 24-year-old Rockdale man is in jail in lieu of bond totaling $145,000 after pol ice recovered 18 bags of crystal meth in a school zone Saturday afternoon.

Michael Rangel was arrested just before 5 p.m. on Maple Street near Rockdale Elementary School, according to Lt. J. D.

Newlin said Ofc. Adam Assaker was serving a warrant for theft of metal on Rangel when he saw the bags in a suitcase on the back seat of a vehicle.

The crystal meth weighed about five pounds, Newlin said.

Rangel also had a previous warrant for prohibited substance in a correctional facility. Newlin said that also involved meth and was the result of a traffic stop.

The possession charge was enhanced due to its proximity to the school.
