But when you think about it, somebody has to paint flagpoles and hardly anyone has been doing it longer, or better, than Steve Gooding of Cibolo. Gooding, a 34-year veteran of the pole-painting profession, ascended the 50-foot flagpole at the Rockdale Post Office last week to apply a new coat of paint, including the shiny gold ball on top (at left). How did he get up there? The device is called a “bosun’s chair” and had its origins in ships from past centuries.
