Milano’s Guthrie named All-State in volleyball

Stonie Guthrie Stonie Guthrie MILANO—Lady Eagle senior outside hitter Stonie Guthrie has been named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class A All- State volleyball team and to the group’s academic all-state squad.

Guthrie, who was recently named District 16A MVP, led Milano to the regional quarterfinals, where they lost to state semifinalist Cayuga.

The Lady Eagles were 29-7 for the season and co-district champions.

Milano head coach Wendy King said the honor is well deserved.

“Stonie devoted herself to being the best she could be and fought through significant back pain this year to lead our team and our district in kills,” King said. “Other coaches know her by first name because she impacts games. That is probably the best compliment any player can have.”

Guthrie was the district’s MVP last year as well as a junior.

She is the daughter of Melton and Iris Guthrie.

This is the first time since 2005 that a Milano volleyball player has been named all-state. That year Rebekah Melton and Lauren Moore, members of the Lady Eagles’ state silver medalist team.
