Winners announced from annual Milano downtown Christmas parade

Lots of folks attended the parade and then headed over to the Milano Civic Center for a free turkey and dressing meal sponsored by the City of Milano. Kids also got a chance to take their picture with Santa Clause.

This year’s theme is “Join Us on the Christmas Express” with top three winners from each category were given plaques and cash prizes. Winners were:

Best overall—“ The Grinch Express,” Justin Gage.

Horses/ wagons—1. Floyd Whiting and Ann Bogdanich/ Rockdale Welding Supply; 2. Christian Thurman.

Floats—1. Milam County Sheriff’s Department Brown Santa program; 2. Milano Junior High cheerleaders; 3. Santa and the Lagrone family.

Judging for the annual Christmas decorations contest around town has been set for Saturday, Dec. 15. Be sure to have your lights on at dark to be judged.

Milano Elementary students will perform their Christmas program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the MHS cafetorium. This is always such a fun event getting to watch all the kiddos.

Members of the Milano Volunteer Fire Department have begun their annual fund-raiser. Tickets can be purchased from any MVFD member. They are one for $5 or six for $25.

Prizes include: Henry Golden Boy 22 caliber LR, Taurus Public Defender .45-410, Remington 700 .270, Marlin 336w 30-30, Remington 870 shotgun, H and R Pardner shotgun, Mossberg 817 17 HMR, Garmin Nuvi 2350 GPS, Leatherman Surge Multitool and $75 Academy gift card.

Drawings will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. All prizes received in gift cards. Winners pay sales tax and need not be present to win.

Don’t forget that the Milano ISD PATCH Club is still collecting “Box Tops For Education.” There are several containers around town you can drop off the box tops at, including the post office, water department and school offices. The box tops are sent in and the school earns free money.

There will be early release dates on Dec. 19-20. Buses will run at 2:05 p.m. Dec. 19-20 and at noon on Dec. 21. Milano ISD will close on Dec. 21 for the winter holidays. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
