Gause Junior High basketball teams will play here on Thursday with games beginning at 5 p.m. Any of you that know me know I’m not a big sports fan, the colleges, pros, etc., but when my grandchildren and their friends are playing that’s a whole new ballgame. Full Story
Tigers trimmed on the road by Smithville in OT
Mitchell continues torrid pace, averaging 30 points a game
The Rockdale Tigers saw a double-digit halftime lead disappear in a 71-70 overtime loss to Smithville on the road Tuesday night.
Tigers drop to 6-5 and have lost three straight.
The Tigers bolted out to a 32-21 advantage at intermission, but Smithville came storming back with a 26-point third quarter to slice Rockdale’s lead to 50-47 by the end of the third quarter. Full Story

Eagles come up short despite Messer’s 25 points, 21 rebounds
MILANO—In the battle of Milam County Class A schools, Thorndale won the free throw battle and in turn the basketball game as the No. 18 Bulldogs defeated the No. 12 Milano Eagles Tuesday at Geneva Paceley Gym 50-44.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 on the year, while Milano falls to 6-2, suffering its second straight loss. Full Story

Rockdale’s Le’Raven Clark has been named second team Freshman All-America by Scout.com, powered by Fox Sports.
Clark, a 6-foot-6, 303 pound redshirt freshman, becomes the first-ever offensive lineman at Texas Tech to receive Freshman All-America honors. Full Story
Navasota, Cameron one step away
Both Cameron and Navasota are one victory away from playing for a state championship.
Cameron (13- 0) will battle Newton (13-0) in the Class 2A, Division I state semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Woodlands’ Woodforest Bank Stadium.
Cameron handled Hallettsville 38-19 in the quarterfinals to keep playing. Newton advanced by beating Franklin 49-13. Full Story

Lady Tigers fall to Thrall
Late rally lifts purple Tigers to victory
A late fourth quarter rally by Thrall pushed the Tigers past Rockdale 34-31 Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers dip to 5-8 on the season while Thrall improves to 5-7.
Thrall broke open a tight game in the final period, outscoring the Lady Tigers 11-5.
Rockdale had led 16-14 at halftime and 26-23 heading into the fourth quarter. Full Story
Lady Eagles get morale boost with win at Granger
Milano uses big first half lead to secure win
GRANGER—The Milano Lady Eagles won at Granger on Tuesday night 38-26.
The win was a timely morale boost as the Lady Eagles went just 1-3 at their tournament over the weekend.
Against Granger, the Lady Eagles took a 25-13 into halftime and didn’t look back.
Junior Myka Morehead led Milano (4-9) scorers with a 11 points and eight rebound night. Full Story
Lady Dogs can’t solve Class 3A Burnet in close road loss
Thorndale playing schedule full of larger schools
On Tuesday night, the Lady Dogs hit the road to face 3A Burnet, but came up just short losing 40-37.
Burnet led by three at halftime and managed to keep that slim advantage by the end of regulation.
The Lady Dogs—previously ranked No. 14—have now dropped four out of five. Full Story
Milano’s Messer dubbed defensive district MVP
Eagle honored for second consecutive year
For the second year in a row, Milano’s Dominique Messer was named Defensive MVP for his play at linebacker during the Eagle football season.
The 6-4 senior garnered 133 tackles to lead the team that finished just out of the playoff picture with a 6-4 overall record. Full Story

Tiger Booster Club has stone Tigers for sale
The Rockdale Tiger Booster Club is helping to promote spirit in Rockdale by selling stone Tigers.
The Tigers are being sold at Garden Treasures, 1207 W. Cameron Ave.
Prices range from $65 to $275 which includes free delivery within the city limits. There is a small fee for painting.
The Tigers can be custom painted in any color you choose, including like a real Tiger. Full Story
