Arrest made in burglary involving child ‘accomplice’

A 36-year-old Rockdale woman was arrested last week in connection with an incident in which police said a child was sent through the window of a residence to assist in a burglary.

Police Chief Thomas Harris said Samatra Iwania Beckwith, was arrested by Ofc. Adam Assaker.

She was charged with burglary of a habitation and released from the Milam County Jail Saturday after posting $30,000 bond.

Harris said the child involved in the incident was 11 years old. Items taken include prescription drugs and cash.

ARREST—Only other felony arrest of the past week came when Graciela Hernandez, 38, of Rockdale was arrested on a Travis County warrant for probation violation on a charge of non-payment of child support. Bond was set at $1,000.

ACCIDENTS—Police investigated six traffic tickets during the past week.

Damage estimates were not listed for any of the accidents by police.

Vehicles operated by Eve Pantoja, 21, of Austin, and 79-year-old James Wallner of Marquette, Iowa, were in collision at 5:09 p.m. Dec. 11 at the West Cameron

Wilcox (US 79-FM 487) intersection. Police said injuries were “unknown.”

A one-vehicle accident was reported at 12:16 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block with a pickup going through a fence and coming to rest in a pasture.

Police said the driver was identified as Carl Gene Huddleston of Hearne.

Two of t he t hree vehicles involved in a hit-and-run in the 1400 block of East Cameron (US 79) left the scene following the 1:30 a.m. Thursday incident, according to police.

Ofc. Brandon Tess said a blueand gray Buick 4- door, with chrome wheels and hood ornament, hit two parked vehicles and left the scene.

One of the parked vehicles, a black Dodge pickup, was moved prior to police arriving and owner information is unknown.

The other parked car was registered to Kathy Cooke Martin and Bill Martin of Rockdale.

No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle collision at 7:46 a.m. collision at the Alcoa-Dyer intersection.

Drivers were listed as Barbara Smith, 41, of Rockdale and Savanna Pankey, 26, of Temple.

Police said vehicles operated by Stephanie Booker, 30, of Rockdale, and 55-year-old Henry Stephens, both of Rockdale, were in collision at 12:51 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Alcoa and Rockdale Road. No injuries were reported.

No injuries were reported in a 1:26 p.m. Thursday collision in the Oriental Kitchen parking lot.

Police said a vehicle driven by Terri Hood, 55, of Rockdale backed into a parked vehicle owned by Eric Robinson of Rockdale.

CITATIONS—Traffic citations issued during the past week included 12 for speeding, four for no liability insurance, two each for expired registration and duty on striking a fixed object and one each for use of cellular device in a school zone, illegal passing and expired driver license.

One citation was issued for possession of drug paraphernalia.

SERVICE CALLS—Officers responded to 153 service calls during the past week and 109 calls were received through the 911 system.
