Big Blue, RJH musicians make all-region bands

Geritt Davenport area qualifier, earns all-state band tryout

Several members of Rockdale High School’s Big Blue Band and Rockdale Junior High Band made the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) all-region bands during recent tryouts.

One member of the RHS band, Geritt Davenport also qualified for Area band and will audi t ion for the ATSSB All- State Band on Saturday, Jan. 12. He earned fifth chair trumpet for the regional symphonic band.

All-region t r youts were held Dec. 8 at Smithville High School.

The all-region bands will perform a concert on Saturday, Jan. 19 on the Texas State University campus.

“We are very proud of these students for their hard work, dedication and for representing Rockdale High School so well,” Adrian Acevedo, director of RISD bands, said.

Those qualifying for the all-region symphonic band were:

Ariel Buentello—4th chair, bass clarinet

Autumn Davenpor t— 9th chair, French horn

Ashton Betchan—1st alternate, clarinet

Ryann Morgan—2nd alternate, oboe

Travis King—2nd alternate, euphonium

Junior high director Leslie Huff said seven members of the band there made the ATSSB bands during Nov. 10 tryouts at Smithville High School.
