‘On the road’ for a quarter century
Commissioner Dale Jaecks in final week
“You’ll be a babbling idiot in six months.”
With those helpful words in 1988, a friend sized up the job newly-elected Precinct 3 Commissioner Dale Jaecks of Rockdale was about to take on.
More than 24 years later Jaecks, who is stepping down Monday as the county’s current longest-serving office holder, can look back with a smile. Full Story
Constable-elect declines post, county to make call
Long-time incumbent Vaughan seeks reappointment
The winner of the 2012 race for Precinct 3 Constable has declined to take office Jan. 1 and Milam County Commissioners are to appoint his replacement in a Wednesday (Dec. 26) session, just six days before the new constable’s term begins.
Jay Willingham submitted a letter declining the post to which he was elected in order to accept another job. Full Story

LAWN ORNAMENTS—Nope, it’s the real thing. Milam County’s deer population have made numerous appearances this year, including this trio grazing, apparently without a care in the world, north of Gause. Several residents of Rockdale with homes fronting woods have reported nightly visits from foraging deer. More mild winter weather is forecast for the final week of 2012. Full Story

Seven Tigers named firstteam all-district in 18-3A
Gibbs named first-team on both sides
The Rockdale Tigers placed seven players on the District 18-3A all-district team and 18 overall.
Clayton Gibbs was chosen first-team on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and defensive back.
Gi bb s , a ju n ior w ho i s expected to become the Tigers’ quarterback next season, led Rockdale with 447 receiving yards this past season and picked off a pair of passes. Full Story
Jerryworld is impressive—in a pretentious, over the top way
JERRYWORLD—Color me impressed. With road trip traveling buddy and former Tiger great Leigh Shepard, we made our first sojourn to Cowboys Stadium, popularly know as Jerryworld—a nod to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
We were there to check out some state finals football— most importantly neighbors Cameron and Navasota. Full Story

Milam rate only one in area to rise
County jobless numbers up three-tenths from October
AUSTIN—Milam County’s unemployment rate jumped three-tenths of a point this month, making it the only area county to not drop in its jobless rate. The county’s not seasonally adjusted jobless rate is at 7.5 percent for November, according to numbers released by the Texas Workforce (TWC) on Friday.
Milam County’s unemployment rate was 7.2 percent in October. Full Story
