Matthews

FITZGERALD, GA—Howard Matthews, 71, of Ocilla, Georgia, formerly of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, Georgia, with the Rev. John Gibbs Jr. officiating. Interment follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Mr. Matthews was born Sept. 24, 1941, in Coats, North Carolina, to James Paul and Pearl Hester Matthews.

He graduated from Fitzgerald High School and lived in the community most of his life.

Mr. Matthews was a former employee of G&L Steel and Stone Oil Co.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Brenda Gail Matthews.

Survivors are two daughters, Paula and Alden Crowe of Milano, Sharlene Joiner and George Griffin of Nashville, Georgia; and a son, J. H. “Bo” and Krissy Matthews II of Hewitt; also, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
