Top stories of 2012

• Rockdale star Daniel Brooks returns to Rockdale after spending a semester at Port Lavaca. Brooks signed to play football with Oklahoma but injured his knee on his first jump at the Rockdale Relays and did not have a chance to return to the state track meet.

• Senior quarterback Ethan Brinkley becomes Rockdale’s all-time leading passer with over 4,000 yards.

• Cameron and Navasota capture state championships in Class 2A and 3A respectively to complete perfect seasons.

• Former Rockdale All-State lineman Le’Raven Clark is named to the freshman All-American team, a first for Texas Tech. He also garners All-Big 12 honors.

• Rockdale long distance man Juan Rubio makes appearances at the state track meet and the state cross country meet.

• The Rockdale Tigers made the playoffs and posted a winning season in basketball for the first time since 1997.

• The Rockdale mixed doubles duo of Ginny Flores and Nick Gonzalez become the first Tiger tennis players to play at state since 2004.

• Emily Brinkley became the first Lady Tiger to earn a trip to state in a weight event since her aunt Wendy Brinkley in 1988.

• The Lady Tiger softball team racked up their first playoff series victory since 2006 by defeating Columbus in bi-district.

• The Milano golf team made its first appearance at the state golf tournament in school history.
