Area students on A&M academic honor lists

COLLEGE STATION—Texas A&M University has named its honor students for the fall semester, recognizing them for outstanding academic performance.

The Dean’s Honor Roll recognizes students taking at least 15 semester hours during the fall semester who have maintained a 3.75 or higher grade point (GPR) out of a possible 4.0.

Sarah Ferrara, of Gause, and Shelby D. Graves, of Lexington, earned spots on the Dean’s Honor Roll.

Ferrara is a senior Health major and Graves is a senior Marketing major.

A second designation, “Distinguished Student,” recognizes those who earned a 3.5 to 3.74 GPR while taking at least 15 hours for the fall semester.

Brittany J. Compton, of Milano and Joelene L. Tomecek, of Thorndale, were on the Distinguished Student list.

Compton is a senior Ag Communications and Journalism major and Tomecek is a junior Visualization major.

AEIS hearing set by RISD school board

A hearing for public discussion of Rockdale ISD’s Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) is set for 5:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 at the central administration building, prior to the January board meeting, according to Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintendent for instruction and administration.

Information will be provided regarding the 2011-12 district and campus performance profiles, comparable improvement, future performance objectives and district and campus improvement plans. All parents and community members are urged to attend.

Grief support group to meet at RHS Thursday

A grief support group for teens ages 12-18 will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Rockdale High School library.

The support group is for those who are coping with the loss of a family member or close friend. All teens are welcome, including those who are just beginning the grief journey and those who have been on it awhile.

The goal is to find healing through an opportunity to ask questions and share with peers who are going through the same experience.

The group meets the first Thursday of the month. There is no charge and light refreshments will be served.

TAKS exit retest for outof school examinees set

Rockdale High School will offer the TAKS Exit Level Exams in March 2013 for Out-of-School (OOS) examinees. Tests dates are March 4 (ELA), March 5 (Math), March 6 (Science) and March 7 (Social Studies), according to RISD testing coordinator Lynnette Guerra.

Individuals who are no longer enrolled in school and who have not previously met minimum expectations on all sections of the TAKS test, but who have met all other graduation requirements, may register to retake the necessary sections(s). All out-of-school TAKS examinees must complete an online registration process. Out-of-school examinees may register online at Registration is open now until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.

All out-of-school TAKS examinees should notify the high school counselors of their intent to test at 512-430-6140.

On the day(s) of testing, examinees should arrive by 8 a.m. and report to the high school office. Examinees must present picture identification, such as a driver’s license, school ID, DPS ID, etc. to test. Examinees will not be able to take the test(s) without a picture ID.

Bulldog Band BBQ chicken fund-raiser

THORNDALE—A take- out only barbecue chicken dinner fund-raiser will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall, according to Starla Hall, spokesperson.

Menu includes: barbecue chicken, beans, noodles, bread, pickles, onions and dessert for $8 per plate. Proceeds to benefit the Thorndale Bulldog Band.

RHS yearbooks on sale, brag ads still available

Rockdale High School yearbook sales continue, according to sponsor Glenda Walker.

The best way to order is at or you can order them in the high school office. The cost of the yearbooks are $55.

Band booster spaghetti supper set for Feb. 4

The annual Rockdale Band Boosters spaghetti supper is set for 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at the Rockdale Junior High commons area. “To-go” plates will be available at 4:30 p.m.

Bands from 6th grade through high school will entertain at the supper this year.
