Cheek, Brosette set to headline Opry

The Milano Opry will hit the stage at Milano High School on Saturday for itsfirstshowof2013. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7. Admission is $7, with kids 10 and under getting in free. Guests area Glenda Cheek and Rodney Brosette.

Go early and enjoy supper with hamburgers and barbecue sandwiches (cooked by Lee’s Landing in Rockdale), along with the Opry’s famous homemade pies.

House band members are Michael Herod, Ab Woods, Michael Wall, Billy Barnett, Will Fountain, Johnny Foster and Lynn Martin with Donny White as emcee.

Milano Junior High’s One-Act Play will perform their award winning play “Curious Savage” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the MHS cafetorium starting at 7 p.m. Admission will be $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. There will also be a silent auction at the event.

At district contest on Jan. 10, the group won first play with their performance and several students won awards. Naomi Graham was named best actress, Cami l le Messer and Sammi Pierce earned all-star cast medals, with Bryce Hughes and Cade Popham earning honorable mention all-star cast awards.

Mi lano High School ’s National Honor Society will conduct a blood drive on Monday Jan. 28. It will be held in the home economics room from noon to 5 p.m. If you are interested in donating, get in touch with Coach John Hughes at the high school, 512-455-9333.

Members of the Milano Volunteer Fire Department have began their annual fund-raiser. Tickets can be purchased from any MVFD member. They are one for $5 for six for $25.

Prizes include: Henry Golden Boy 22 caliber LR, Taurus Public Defender .45-410, Remington 700 .270, Marlin 336w 30-30, Remington 870 shotgun, H and R Pardner shotgun, Mossberg 817 17 HMR, Garmin Nuvi 2350 GPS, Leatherman Surge Multitool and $75 Academy gift card.

Drawings will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 during the MVFD’s annual chili supper at the Milano Civic Center.

All prizes received in gif t cards. Winners pay sales tax and need not be present to win.
