Hayes

CAMERON—Services for Melba Hayes, 85, of Cameron were held Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial followed at Ben Arnold Cemetery in Ben Arnold.

Mrs. Hayes died Thursday, Jan. 10, at her home.

A homemaker, she was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Milam County to Wilson Clifford and Carrie (Nolte) Keith.

Mrs. Hayes was a graduate of C.H. Yoe High School.

She married Reggie Hayes and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hayes had worked for Southwest Bell Telephone Co. for several years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Cameron.

She was also preceded in death by a son, James Reginald; two grandchildren, Carrie and Josh; and brother, Wilson Clifford “Dub” Keith.

Survivors are a daughter, Linda Schmidt of Cameron; a brother, Charles Keith of Port Neches; and a sister, Helen Hrozek of Cameron; also, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
