Superintendent topic for RISD evaluation

The annual evaluation of Supt. Dr. Howell Wright Jr. is the only agenda item for a special session of the Rockdale ISD board of trustees at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Central Administration Building.

Evaluations are conducted in closed session. Any action would be in open session.

Manor Oaks sets chili supper on January 31

Manor Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 227 South FM 487, Rockdale, will host a chili supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31.

Price will be $6 for a bowl of chili, crackers, Fritos or cornbread, according to Lisa Debault, spokesperson. Desserts will also be sold.

“Proceeds will go toward activities for our residents,” she said.

Advance tickets are on sale now and money will be collected the night of the fund-raiser.

Reagan Day dinner scheduled for Feb. 7th

The Republican Women of Milam County will hosting their annual Reagan Day and Texas Independence Day Celebration on February 7 at the Cameron VFW.

Bill Whitmire, party chair, said the evening begins at 5 p.m. with a mixer, supper at 6 and speakers will begin at 6:30, including Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

Whitmire said there will be a silent auction and many county officials are expected to attend.

Democrats to gather Feb. 2nd in Cameron

Milam County Democratic Women and the Milam County Democratic Party will meet at 10 a.m. Feb. 2 at the offices of Cappolino, Dodd and Krebs, 312 South Houston, Cameron.

County Chair Richard Stone said the party meeting is a called Executive Committee meeting and all precinct chairs are encouraged to attend. The women’s group will discuss the 2013 program of work and nominate new officers.

Meetings are open to anyone interested in the Democratic Party, he said.

Officer-of-the-Year banquet set for Feb. 16

The Rockdale Police Department Officer of the Year Banquet will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at the KC Hall.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the meal, catered by KC’s, to begin at 6:30.

The meal includes ribeye steak, baked potato, salad and desserts. Tickets are $15 per person and can be bought at the police station until February 8.

An award ceremony will be followed by a dance with People’s Choice.

Emancipet visit ahead Feb. 7th at S&S Auto

Emancipet, an Austin-based organization which provides lowcost services to owners of dogs and cats, will visit S&S Auto in Rockdale Feb. 7, according to Adam Gardener, spokesman.

Since its first visit to Rockdale in August, Emancipet has performed 145 spay/neuter surgeries.

MDD board members to discuss property

Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) directors will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

Agenda items include possible purchase of real property after an executive session discussion.

The MDD and city council have been discussing development of the Rockdale Business Park on FM 487.

Other agenda items include financial support of the annual Rockdale Auto and Cycle Show and a downtown facade improvement program.

Black Jack VFD plans chili and cake auction

The Black Jack Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper and cake auction Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Black Jack Fire Station on FM 908 between Rockdale and Caldwell.

Serving begins at 5 p.m. with the cake auction at 6.

Supper tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 2 to 12.

• 3:14 p.m. Jan. 16, grass fire, Avenue C in Milano, Milano VFD.

• 7:39 p.m. Friday, possible propane leak, Renaissance Villa, 700 Dyer, Rockdale VFD.

• 11:49 p.m. Friday, Renaissance Villa, 700 Dyer, smoke in attic heating unit, Rockdale VFD.

• Thorndale and Milano VFDs responded to separate out-ofcontrol burns at 4:05 and 4:58 p.m. Saturday.

• 2:41 p.m. Sunday, grass fire, CR 342, Milano VFD.

• 2:17 p.m. Saturday, field on fire, CR 447, Thorndale VFD.
