Loewe on East Texas Baptist fall Dean’s list

MARSHALL—Lance Loewe of Rockdale, has been named to the Dean’s List with Honors for the fall 2012 semester at East Texas Baptist University.

The Dean’s List recognizes students for outstanding academic achievement during that semester. The Dean’s List with Honors are students who have a 3.5 grade point average or above.

Area residents named to Angelo State honor list

SAN ANGELO—Three area residents were named to the 2012 fall semester Dean’s List at Angelo State University.

Mentie N. York, of Rockdale, Jonathon R. Shephard, of Thrall, and Holly B. Frazier, of Taylor were named to the list.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must be enrolled fulltime at ASU and must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Rockdale Project Grad selling chance tickets

Rockdale Project Graduation is selling tickets for a chance drawing fund-raiser. First prize is an iPad, second prize is a pair of Beats headphones and third prize is a $100 Visa gift card.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Drawing will be held Feb. 12. Contact RHS seniors to buy tickets or call Debbie Brinkley, 512-446-6060.

Band booster spaghetti supper set for Feb. 4

Rockdale Band Boosters will hold their biggest fund-raiser of the year from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 in the Rockdale Junior High commons area.

The annual spaghetti supper will also include performances by all Rockdale ISD bands with a senior cake Auction at 5 p.m.

Plates are priced at $8 per person. “To-go” plates will be available at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets are available by contacting RISD High School and Junior High band members.

RHS yearbooks on sale, brag ads still available

Rockdale High School yearbook sales continue, according to sponsor Glenda Walker.

The best way to order is at www.balfour.com or you can order them in the high school office. The cost of the yearbooks are $55.

To senior parents—it is not too late to get your senior brag ads. Contact Walker at RHS for more details.

RISD mandatory substitute training

A mandatory training for all new and returning Rockdale ISD substitute teachers will be held from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the RISD Conference Room.

This training will include processes for the new automated substitute service Rockdale ISD is implementing this year. Individuals interested in becoming substitute teachers must attend this training in order to qualify for the substitute list.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and provide consent to a criminal background check.

Substitute applications can be picked up at the RISD Central Office prior to the training.

MJH, TMS plays place at District OAP contest

TEMPLE—Two area junior high schools placed at their district UIL One Act Play contest held Jan. 10 at Temple College.

Milano Junior High’s “Curious Savage” placed first overall in the competition. Thorndale Middle School’s “Wizard of Oz” took third place honors.

Milano’s Naomi Graham was named the best actress for the contest.

All-Star cast award winners included Milano’s Camille Messer and Sammi Pierce, along with Thorndale’s Kylie Buchanan and Andrew Stolte.

Honorable mention all-star cast awards included Bryce Hughes and Cade Popham of Milano, and Logan O’Campo and Gabe Kopit of Thorndale.

Thorndale’s group was also awarded the best crew award. Crew members were Chloe Krause, Renee Reyes, Cody Smith, Maureen Goodwin and Hunter Kuhl.

Milano directors were Sherr y Lagrone and Susan Meyer. Thorndale directors were Annie Violette and Deby Leschber.

Glenn Miller Orchestra coming to Cameron PAC

CAMERON—The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Cameron ISD Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $15 each and will be available at the door, or can be purchased at the C.H. Yoe High School front kiosk and Cameron Chamber of Commerce, 254-697-4979.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is known for its big band concert and swing dance numbers. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered one of the greatest bands of all time.
