TACC plans new year activities

By DARLEEN TUCKER
TACC Secretary

Thorndale Area Chamber of Commerce met in their regular monthly meeting on Jan. 23, at the TACC building. The meeting was called to order by president Brian Morton. The minutes from December and the December financial report were approved as presented. Committee reports were heard from Information and Resources, Business Development, Chamber Development and Community Involvement.

In old business, 2013 membership information was reviewed and the Christmas Lot take-down process was reported almost complete. The TACC appreciates all who participated in this event and thanks everyone for their timely completion of the process.

In addition, the film guidelines for Milam County are in the process of being approved by all municipalities in Milam County and we look forward to working with any film companies that need what our area has to offer as location shooting for filming. The movie “Abel’s Field,” filmed partially in Thorndale, is now out on DVD and is available at Amazon.com.

In new business, the TACC voted to support the Relay For Life activities with a donation. The TACC also approved the request for the use of the TACC building for 2013 for the Zumba classes and the Kountry Squares square dance group.

The TACC approved a new event, joining with the Milam County Farm Bureau, in an Estate Planning Workshop, to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the TACC building. This community service program is a sharing of ideas in the estate planning process and the different options available to you in the areas of wills, trusts, durable financial power of attorney, medical power of attorney, directive to physicians, preserving your estate and how to insure your estate is handled according to your wishes.

Join the TACC and Milam County Farm Bureau for this overview presentation and question and answer session. If you have questions, please call Durwood or Darleen Tucker at 512-898-2727.

Also approved at the meeting was the return of the Culpepper & Meriwether Circus. That is right! Mark your calendars for Oct. 14. The circus will feature two performances, at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The circus was a big hit when it was here four years ago and we know you will have a great time this year. Look for more information as this date draws near.

TACC would like to remind everyone who has not done so to send in their membership letters for their 2013 yearly dues. Your dues help promote the business climate in Thorndale and help us sponsor family-friendly events during the year, as well as fund scholarships for local students.

We welcome new members all year long. If you want to join, please contact Brian Morton at 512-658-5378 or Darleen Tucker at 512-898-2727.

Please shop locally in order to support area businesses and help the TACC in their mission of keeping Thorndale and surrounding businesses growing. Check us out at www.thorndaletx.com.
