JUDGE’S COMMENTS

There’s cause for optimism
David Barkemeyer
Milam County Judge

There is a lot of pessimism going around these days it seems, about our country, our government, even our county.

I don’t like that. I read something this week that I thought I’d pass along.

It went something like this.

The world is not going to the dogs. The human race is not doomed. Civilization is not going to crash.

Why? The captain is still on the bridge.

It’s true, humanity is going through a difficult time, but humanity has gone through difficulties many times before in its long history, and has always come through. Don’t worry about the universe collapsing, it’s not going to collapse, if it were, we couldn’t stop it anyway. The captain is on the bridge.

All we need to do is do our nearest duty to the very best of our ability, and to keep an even mind until the storm is over.
