Search under way for ‘heart punch’ suspect


Garza Garza Law enforcement personnel in Milam County, and throughout Central Texas, are on the lookout for a 31-year-old man suspected of punching a woman ha rd enough to cause a major heart injury earl ier this month.

Cameron Police Chief Randy Dixon said a warrant has been issued charging Jesse Garza with assault causing serious bodily injury.

Dixon said the charge stems from an altercation at a Cameron bar on Jan. 11 in which the female bar manager was struck in the chest.

He said the blow was hard enough to rupture the aortic valve in the victim’s heart, causing her to undergo “major heart surgery” in an Austin hospital.

“Garza is considered extremely dangerous,” Dixon said. Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to call Milam CrimeStoppers at 1-88-697-8477.

COCKFIGHT—Another in a series of arrests was made by the Milam County Sheriff’s Department during the past week in connection with a Jan. 6 raid on what the sheriff’s department termed a “cockfighting tournament” near Gause.

Bradley Chip Byrd, 20, of Gause, was charged Jan. 23 with cockfighting, causes or earns, and was released after posting $10,000 bond.

A total of 11 persons have now been arrested in connection with the incident and 28 citations were issued.

Sheriff David Greene estimated about 50 persons ran into the woods when law enforcement officers showed up at the County Road 353 location.
