Rockdale mail now taking Austin detour

Mail from the Rockdale Post Office now goes a different way during delivery.

As of Jan. 26, mail out of Rockdale and most of south Milam County which had been routed through Waco, now goes to the Austin Distribution Center, according to Rockdale Post Office interim officer in charge, Marlis Davidson.

“They are closing the Waco plant and phasing out the Waco for the 765 3-digit zip code area,” Davidson said. The closing of the Waco plant is part of cuts made by the United States Postal Service.

The change has caused a few delays in the delivery of some mail, but hopes are that all of that will work itself out.

“It is still supposed to be the same service (taking the same amount of time),” Davidson said. “That is what they assured us.”
