‘Newcomers’ seek city council terms

Incumbent trustee files during first week

The 2013 political year got off to a quick start during the week as two first-time candidates filed for positions on the Rockdale City Council in the May 11 election.

Trent Wages filed for the west ward council seat currently held by Toby Johnson.

Robert B. Lawhon signed up for the east ward position now held by Joyce Dalley.

The term of Mayor Larry Jones is also expiring in 2013.

Filing continues 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at City Hall. March 1 is the final day to file for the May 11 elections.

SCHOOL BOARD—Incumbent Wenda Jo Dyer has filed for a second term at Place 5 on the Rockdale ISD board of trustees.

Other terms expiring this spring are board president Lee Jenkins in Place 4 and Michelle Lehmkuhl in Place 3.

Filing is weekdays, 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the Central Administration Building, 520 West Davilla.

MILANO—All four incumbent Milano ISD trustees whose terms expire in 2013 have signed up for new terms.

Carl Blake, Dewey Steinbecker and Lynette Taylor are seeking re-election to three-year terms.

Incumbent Shawn Walton has signed for a two-year term.

There were no filings for the Milano City Council in the first week. Terms of council members Carol Newman, Henry Dykes and David Gunnels Jr. are expiring.

Candidates for both city and school elections may file at the Milano ISD Superintendent’s Office, behind the elementary school, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

THORNDALE—There have been no filings for any races in Thorndale, either city council or school board.

Terms of Mayor Billy Simank and council members Stephanie Churchman and Don Culp are expiring in 2013.

Filing is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Thorndale City Hall.

Terms of Thorndale ISD School Board President David Hall and trustees Brian Fisher and Deborah Stolte are expiring this year.

School board filing is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Thorndale ISD Administration Building on FM 486.

HOSPITAL DISTRICT— There’s no Rockdale Hospital District election in 2013, according to Carolyn Bryan, district secretary.

Elections are only held in even-numbered years. The next RHD election is scheduled for 2014.
