Graveside service for Henry Hollis Sr., 73, were held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Hollis died Friday, Jan. 25.
He was born April 15, 1939, to Jessie Mae Denmon and Henry Mitchell.
He attended Aycock High School.
As a young boy, he bailed cotton for income. While in school, he worked as a cook and driver. Around 1979, he started working as a driver for BFI, and retired from there after 25 years.
Mr. Hollis served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
In 1953, he met Lillian Jones who later became his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dwight; and three grandchildren, Nyiesha Gipson, Kehjuan Cooper and Henry Hollis III.
Survivors are his wife, Lillian; four sons, Dennis and wife Shelia, Boris and wife Andrea, Henry Jr. and wife Beverly, and Danny; five daughters, Barbara and husband Tommie, Dina, Diane and husband Edward, Debra and husband Torrance, Patricia and husband Edward; an aunt, Ruby Banks; and a sister, Bertha L. Cline.
