Rockdale City Council members got an earful Monday from some downtown business owners who are frustrated at the pace of action after the Aug. 29-30, 2012, wall collapse which damaged several buildings. Full Story

But it did look good last week when a sure-enough construction crane set up at the corner of Cameron and Main (US 79 and FM 908) and began to haul roofing materials to the top of one of the town’s historic buildings. A 55-year-old Tanglewood woman died early Tuesday near that Lee County community when she was struck by what was apparently an 18-wheeler while trying to assist a motorist at the side of US 77. Full Story

Scholarship fund-raiser in honor of late Milam County extension agent Christine Holcombe draws 300 people, raises $25,000
Just five weeks after her death, organizers pulled off a very successful fundraiser for the Christine Holcombe Memorial Scholarship to the tune of $25,000 with more expected to come in. The Mardi Gras-themed event included Cajun food, kids games, Gingerbread men, beads, masks, door prizes music by the Yoe High Jazz Band and DJ Nonito Martinez, along with live and silent auctions. Rockdale rebates down for month, year
MDD allocation amount also drops compared to same time last year
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said that state sales tax revenue in January was $2.12 billion, up 6.1 percent compared to January 2012.
Combs sent out $741 million in January local sales tax allocations last week to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. That is up 4.6 percent compared to the same time in 2012. Full Story
Chamber seeks nominees for 2013 banquet
The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for awards to be presented at the 2013 banquet which has yet to be scheduled.
Deadline to submit an award is March 15
The top four awards are Outstanding Citizen, Citizen-of-theyear, Organization-of-the-year, and Business-of-the -year.
