Band students earn medals; five advance
HUTTO—Twenty-one Rockdale High School musicians participated in the UIL Region 26 Solo and Ensemble Contest held Saturday at Hutto High School. Five of the Big Blue Band members have advanced on to the state level, one in two events, according to RISD director of bands Adrian Acevedo.
“Our students earned a total of 18 medals—seven gold, six silver and five bronze,” Acevedo said.
The brass ensemble of Geritt Augustin Castillo, Derek Contreras, Autumn Davenport, Geritt Davenport and Melinda Perez earned a Division I (superior) rating on their Class 1 “The Earle of Oxford Marche” and was earned a spot at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble contest in late spring.
Perez also advanced to state with her memorized Class 1 French Horn solo “Concerto No. 3 (movement 1).”

Shawn Waldrep—Division 1 (Superior), Class 3 bass clarinet solo.
Jake Land—Division 1, Class 3 alto saxophone solo.
Sabrina Vargas—Division 1, Class 3 alto saxophone solo.
Emily Ibarra—Division 1, Class 3 French horn solo.
Travis Sorenson—Division 1, Class 3 tuba solo.
Jennifer Zelaya—Division 1, Class 2 flute solo.
Ryann Morgan—Division 1, Class 2 oboe solo.
Ashton Betchan—Division 1, Class 2 clarinet solo.
John Rivers—Division 2, Class 2 tuba solo.
Natalie Wagner—Division 2, Class 1 memorized flute solo.
Melanie Ibarra—Division 1, Class 1 clarinet solo.
Autumn Davenport— Division 2, Class 1 memorized, French horn solo.
Geritt Davenport—Division 2, Class 1 memorized trumpet solo.
Lane Schweitzer—Division 2, Class 1 memorized tympani solo.
Tyler Land—Division 2, Class 1 memorized snare drum solo.
