Rockdale City Council members got an earful Monday from some downtown business owners who are frustrated at the pace of action after the Aug. 29-30, 2012, wall collapse which damaged several buildings. Full Story
Well, no. Nobody’s really going to use that word in post-Alcoa downtown Rockdale in the winter of 2013. But it did look good last week when a sure-enough construction crane set up at the corner of Cameron and Main (US 79 and FM 908) and began to haul roofing materials to the top of one of the town’s historic buildings. Hit-and-run death in Tanglewood
Area records second roadway fatality in 5 days
It’s been a tragic week on area highways.
A 55-year-old Tanglewood woman died early Tuesday near that Lee County community when she was struck by what was apparently an 18-wheeler while trying to assist a motorist at the side of US 77. Full Story
Rockdale city council race develops; T’dale mayor files
There will be a contested race for Rockdale’s west ward city council position in 2013 as two newcomers have now filed for the position held by incumbent Toby Johnson.
Nathan R. Bland filed last week for the May 11 election, according to City Secretary Terry Blanchard.
Previously, newcomer Trent Wages had signed up for that post. Full Story
Local man sustains serious burns in fire
A 19-year-old Rockdale man sustained what were termed “serious and extensive” burns after a cargo trailer at a local firm exploded and burned late Thursday.
Lt. J. D. Newlin said Darien Ramirez was taken first to Scott & White Hospital in Temple, then transferred to a burn center in Dallas. Full Story
Top officer banquet set for Saturday
Rockdale Police Department’s Officer of the Year Banquet will be held Saturday at the KC Hall.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with the meal, catered by KC’s, to begin at 6:30. The meal includes ribeye steak, baked potato, salad and desserts. Full Story
