Post office ending Saturday delivery this year
In the latest in a series of cost-cutting move, the U. S. Postal Service announced last week it would end Saturday home mail delivery beginning the week of Aug. 5.
Postmaster General, and CEO, Patrick Donahoe said the switch would save the postal service about $2 billion annually. Full Story

MILANO—On a 6-0 vote, with one abstention, Monday, the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) board denied a request to re-hear the Alcoa water well permit approved on Nov. 13. Full Story

Some “high-octane” authors and motorized vehicles will be in downtown Rockdale the first weekend in March.
Rockdale will host its seventh annual Tejas Fest, with most events Saturday, March 2, with authors, artists, events for children, food and plenty of history. Full Story
Winners announced from Milano VFD fund-raiser
Winners have been announced from the annual Milano Volunteer Fire Department fund-raiser. They names were drawn during the group’s chili supper held at the Milano Civic Center on Saturday night. Organizers said it was the most money they had ever raised at the chili supper. Full Story
