MDD starts new facade help effort

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) is ready to put a new face on things.

Literally. Meeting Monday in the Patterson Civic Center, MDD directors appointed a committee to oversee a facade improvement program, designed to assist business owners who want to improve the interface between their facilities and their customers.

“This has been in the planning stage for some time,” Tom Manskey, MDD executive director, said. “We now have one formal application, so we needed to get a com- mittee appointed to get moving. Named to the committee were Leanna Applegate, Joyce Ford, Elaine Gerren and Bill Cooke.

“Either I or MDD secretary Kara Clore will also be a part of the committee,” Manskey said.

Manskey said the city council has approved initial expenditures of up to $30,000, no more than $10,000 for any one project.

“We’re envisioning some kind of matching program, where the MDD puts up funds to match expenditures from the owner, but there are all kinds of ways to do that,” he said.

“We’re certainly looking at downtown but this program isn’t restricted to the downtown area,” Manskey said.

BUSINESS PARK—After an executive session to discuss property, directors authorized Manskey and Gary Griesbach, MDD president, to negotiate with the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce for purchase of land at Coffield Industrial Park on FM 487.

“We’re actually at the point where we could make an offer,” Manskey said.

The MDD envisions a business park on the site. “That’s the use it’s always been intended for,” Manskey said.
