Surplus food distribution set Thursday

The monthly visit of Austin’s Capital Area Food Bank’s mobile pantry is set for 9 a.m. Thursday in the KC Hall parking lot, according to Denise Sifuentes, organizer.

The free monthly food giveaways are drawing in excess of 200 persons on the third Thursday of each month. There are no restrictions, anyone may receive food.

“Volunteers are needed,” Sifuentes said. “Please bring plastic grocery bags.”

Garden ‘kickoff’ ahead Wednesday

Rising Star Baptist Church will host a “Community Garden Kickoff” at the church at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Purpose, is to encourage families, and students, to grow their own food, providing affordable, free fresh produce.

Gardening experts will be on hand. The church is located at the north end of Texas Street.
