Knights honor officers, firefighters, AMR during annual chili fete Monday

Reporter/Bill Cooke Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council 7014 held its annual chili supper honoring Milam County law enforcement personnel, volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel Monday night at the KC Hall.

The event drew a turnout of about 100 and the KCs served up heaping “bowls of red” with all the trimmings.

Mike Korenek, community activities chairman for the Knights, served as master of ceremonies and expressed the Knights’ appreciation for the firefighters, law officers and first responders.

“It is a privilege for us to hold this event each year and recognize you for your service to this area in enforcing the law and protecting our lives and property,” he said.

He also introduced Grand Knight Gary Darby and Gus Coelho, Council 7014 chaplain who gave the invocation.

The serving line opened at 6:30.

Awarding of door prizes donated by Rockdale businesses and the Knights concluded the evening. Winners and donors were listed as follows:
