Swenson Swenson A 90th birthday party will be held for former Milano teacher and principal Ed Swenson on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Milano Elementary cafeteria. This is the campus where Mr. Swenson was principal for so long.

The party will run from 2-4 p.m. and the request from family is to bring no gift, just your memories to share. Friends, relatives and former students of Mr. Swenson are all invited to attend.

He was high school principal at Milano for 15 years in the 1950s and 1960s. He also coached football, basketball, and track while principal. He also taught biology, history and government.

According to his daughter Connie Swenson Ruiz, Mr. Swenson’s first job in education was principal, teacher and coach at San Gabriel School. At that time they had grades 1-8. After that, he served as high school principal and coach at Thorndale. Then, he started the job in Milano and stayed until 1966.

He later served as a principal in Port Isabel, Pearland, and Harlingen School Districts. He returned to Milano to retire in the early 1980s.

Milano Elementary School will host a book fair Feb. 25 through March 1 at the school library during school day hours. Parents are encouraged to attend the book fair with their children. Patrons can also buy books for their children’s (or grandchildren’s) classrooms.

Milano High School’s senior class Project Graduation will host a lunch fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3 at the Rockdale KC Hall.

The menu will include chicken, German noodles, green beans, bread and tea all for $8. Desserts will also be available for purchase.

Our family gained a member over the weekend as our youngest daughter Janie married her long time boyfriend Siamack Bazargani in an absolutely beautiful wedding at Safari Texas in Richmond. There were many happy tears shed throughout the day and even more smiled shared. What a happy day it was for our entire family. A big congratulations to Janie and Siamack.
