Mayoral election is three-person race

School trustees stay unchallenged

A two-person mayoral contest became a three-candidate chase Friday, the final day of filing, when John King signed up for the May 11 city ballot.

King, a retiree, joins Toby Johnson and Collier Perry on the mayoral ballot. Johnson is an incumbent west ward city council member and Perry is a former councilman and was runner-up in the 2010 race for mayor.

If no candidate gets a majority the top two will meet in a runoff.

Two city council seats are contested. Newcomers Trent Wages and Nathan Bland are vying for the west ward seat being vacated by Johnson. Incumbent east ward council member Joyce Dalley is challenged by Robert Lawhon.

There was no change in the Rockdale ISD election. Incumbents Lee Jenkins (board president), Michelle Lehmkuhl and Wenda Dyer are unopposed.
