Building permits down for second straight month

City building permits issued for the month of Februar y totaled just $27,250, according to Rockdale city hall officials.

Permits are down for the month, where $47,306 in permits were handed out in January.

Permit totals for the fiscal year, which started in October, now sit at $1,141,870. Included in that total is the new $690,000 McDonald’s building that is being constructed on US 79. The old restaurant was torn down and a new restaurant is being built at that same site.

Permits are issued at City Hall and reflect only construction in the city limits.

Projects permitted for January were: Rockdale Signs for Taylor Woodson, 137 N. Main, two 4x8 signs; Joaquine Gonzales, 315, Scarbrough, demolishing house; Tom Berry, 316 Mary, wood fence; Windham Roofing for Betty Jensen, 137 N. Main, roof; Jan Beery 611 Miller, wood fence

Also, Albert Jordan, 310 W. Belton, carport 18x20; Jesus Luna, 359 W. Belton, demolishing mobile home; Luis Mart Vasquez for Betty Jensen, 129 & 133 N. Main, fix front of building; Javier Robles, 617 E. Cameron, roof; Dolores Woolverton, 1304 E. Cameron, roof.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
