In society today, where individual accomplishments and accolades are highlighted by the media, it is rare to find members of a team who are not concerned with their individual accomplishments within the framework of the team.

Our boy’s basketball team was a group of young men who epitomized the meaning of team. It was evident in watching this group of young men on the court they bought into the team concept and the slogan “There is no I in team.”

In discussing the season and the team with Coach Jones, he said the joy about this group of young men could be found in the following interesting fact. At no point in the season did any of the players ever ask about their individual statistics. No player asked how many points did I score coach, or how many steals, rebounds or assist did I have? They were only concerned about the score at the end of the game.

This team provided their parents and community members with lots of great memories this season. One other thing they left me with is this. If I am ever asked to talk about what it means to be a team, I can use the 2012-13 Milano boys basketball team as a perfect example. Congratulations to the Class A Division I Region IV Finalist boys basketball team.
