FLAMING SUPPORT—The City of Milano Volunteer Fire Department recently honored individuals and organizations with a plaque. The “Flaming Support Award”, started this year (2013) will recognize exemplary financial support every year. The “Flaming Support Award”, started this year (2013) will recognize exemplary financial support every year. Firefighter Ted Hubert (L) presents Tommy Standard, owner of Standard Care (and ex-Milano Fire Chief), a Flaming Support Award. Fire calls dispatched in South Milam County from the Rockdale Police Station during the past week included the following:

• 7:02 p.m. Thursday, Gause VFD dispatched to report of a large grass fire at FM 485 and County Road 264. Firefighters discovered the blaze was a controlled burn that had not been reported to authorities.

• 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Gause VFD responded to a report of a tree on fire on County Road 342. Again the blaze turned out to be a controlled burn which had not been reported.

• 9:29 p.m. Saturday, Rockdale VFD dispatched to report of a sparking transformer in the alley behind The Rockdale Reporter.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
